Hero ACMI

WHAT WE DID

Karen Martini’s restaurant HERO ACMI had recently undergone an internal fit-out when the Covid-19 pandemic swept in and necessitated an outdoor dining area to safely accommodate diners.
Working with Chris and the team at Chris Connell Design, the brief was to fabricate simple, practical and elegant loose furniture with a high-end finish for the new open-air dining space. Working from sketches provided by Chris we were able to craft beautiful brushed stainless steel furniture that represented his design vision and delivered a practical solution for the end-client. Where most other outdoor furniture is manufactured from a mild steel base which will rust and degrade over time, we crafted HERO ACMI’s powder-coated side tables from the same stainless steel as the polished chairs and dining tables. This means that unlike mild steel, the material will outlast its coating, won’t rust or degrade, and can be recoated far in the future when the coating shows signs of wear. That’s how we at Formanova craft furniture to last a lifetime. A challenge for this project was achieving the L-shaped edge capping on both the small and large perforated tables, as curving that profile without crushing it is very difficult — but nothing is impossible. To master our technique before production began, we fabricated multiple trial pieces in an extensive prototyping process.
